In my 15 minute shower today, I thought about a great deal:
Biology and more specifically, neurology tells us that everything we are, our personality, mood, and thinking processes are all based on either chemical imbalances in our bodies or simply the specific pattern in which our neurons are connected. Its hard to grasp that who we are, our mental individuality, is only based the way our brain is wired. I’m going to use this word, “wired” a lot in my next thoughts.
When one makes a mistake, and by mistake I mean not when someone TELLS you you’ve made a mistake. I mean when you actually feel as though you screwed up, does that mean you were wired wrong? How does one make sure if they’ve been wired correctly? Maybe they can’t. Maybe it’s not up to them. Is it up to the parents to try their best to wire their children the best they can? Perfection can never be achieved; if the parents aren’t wired correctly, how can they wire their children correctly?
Is it possible to rewire oneself? Is what you learn ever set in stone? They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, and psychology researchers say as one gets older, its harder for them to learn new things. The brain becomes less absorbent to new information. These are all incomplete thoughts, and I’ve written all this out on facebook, only to decide not to post on here. But I wanna post it somewhere. Maybe Tumblr.
